Cross the uninhabited zone and explore the folds of the Earth🌍! The unique Martian-like landscape of Hami Dadao Road will absolutely leave you speechless.
📍【Mars Base Self-Driving Route】
D1: Hami City → Wubao Ghost City → Dadao Road Core Area (Remember to fill up your tank! Navigation often fails in Ghost City)
D2: Hongliutan Campsite → Tongtian Cave → Water Source → Mars Base (⚠️ Must have a 4WD off-road vehicle! The corrugated road will make you question life)
D3: Pterosaur Canyon → Alien Ruins → Return to Hami (Avoid hiking at noon in summer! Surface temperature can exceed 70℃)
📸【Three Must-Photograph Spots】
1. Tongtian Cave at sunset shows a pink-purple Martian effect
2. The Yardang formations 3 km north of Mars Base look like an interstellar battlefield
3. The red rocks at the Water Source turn a dazzling rose gold under the sunset
𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬:
✅ Bring enough water and supplies; there are no gas stations along the 380 km route
✅ Best time is April to October, but avoid noon in July and August
✅ Drones require prior approval; some areas are no-fly zones
✅ Entrance fee is 98 RMB per vehicle; save the 24-hour rescue hotline!
🚙 Transportation Tips:
Recommend hiring a modified Prado with a local guide (about 1500 RMB/day)
If driving yourself, be sure to prepare:
▸ Two spare tires + car air pump
▸ Satellite phone (mobile signals are lost in the core area)
▸ At least 3 days’ worth of dry food and drinking water
🏜️ Outfit Suggestions:
Bright-colored windbreaker + desert boots + magic scarf
(The wind and sand are so strong that sand may get into your camera)
Lying on top of the Yardang formations late at night, you can see the Milky Way stretching across the sky with the naked eye. This desolate yet magnificent surreal feeling is probably the real-life experience of The Martian✨
