See the stuffed giant turtle at Ngoc Son Temple in Hoan Kiem, Hanoi🐢

Do you know the famous giant turtle in Hanoi?

There is a special legend about Hoan Kiem Lake, a landmark in Hanoi. In the 15th century, Le Loi, who founded the Ye Dynasty, won a war with a sword given to him by a giant turtle that appeared in the lake. After the war, when he returned to the lake, the giant turtle appeared and took the sword, so the lake was named Hoan Kiem, which means "returning the sword."

A giant turtle is stuffed in Ngoc Son Temple on a small island in the north of the lake. It was discovered in the lake in 1960 and is 210cm long and 120cm wide. Next to the original giant turtle, there is another turtle that was found dead in the lake in 2016 and stuffed. You can see two giant turtles in the temple. Therefore, turtles are considered very sacred to Vietnamese people, and even now, whenever something big happens in Vietnam, turtles appear in the lake. It was my first time seeing such a big turtle, so it was a new and precious experience-!
