This year, Guizhou is indeed super popular. We spontaneously planned a 4-day, 3-night trip with friends, avoiding crowds by choosing some off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities. Guizhou's landscapes are truly different from what we're used to around Chengdu, and the karst terrain really let us go wild.
If you also love the outdoors and want to enjoy great food, good sleep, and freedom, you can copy our itinerary:
Day1️⃣
Chengdu - Bijie - Zhijin
🚙Transport: Took an 8am high-speed train, then rented a car in Bijie for self-driving
🎫Play: Zhijin Cave (recommend entering at 4pm to avoid crowds)
🍽️Eat: Bijie Aunt Shu's Siwawa (rolled pancakes), Zhijin Xiejiaqiao Liangfen Luoguo (cold noodle hot pot)
🏨Stay: Zhijin Hotel
DAY2️⃣
Zhijin - Anshun
⛰️Play: Great Sage's Eye (must-visit for outdoor lovers! 80-degree climbing difficulty using hands and feet - experience Guizhou's magical mountains)
Niudaoyan (next to Great Sage's Eye but we couldn't enter due to high water)
🍽️Eat: Brother Hui's Duoduofen (dip pot)
🏨Stay: DoubleTree by Hilton (amazing views)
DAY3️⃣
Anshun - Liupanshui - Asilixi
🧗Play: Tonggudang, Lotus Cave
🍽️Eat: Minmin Bingjiang (shaved ice), Qilin Doutang Yuanzi Hotpot
🏨Stay: Yiren Ranch Hotel (inside Jiucaiping scenic area - super convenient for early morning visits to avoid crowds)
DAY4️⃣
Asilixi - Bijie
🌿Play: Jiucaiping (highly recommend sunrise views - must be gorgeous with full blooms in late August)
Ertai Slope (suggest skipping - too crowded with terrible traffic, our worst choice)
🍽️Eat: Bijie Xu's Crispy Fried Pork Noodles
🚄Took 7pm high-speed train back to Chengdu
✅Overall, we chose relatively cool locations (only Anshun was a bit hot) with rich outdoor resources - we'd love to visit again.
The two major attractions were decent - timing is crucial to avoid crowds as large numbers definitely reduce the experience.
The wild scenic spots were perfect for our outdoor-loving family. Our little Jin was absolutely thrilled when climbing Great Sage's Eye!
