Hirosaki Neputa Festival 🎆 A brave festival of summer nights illuminated by warrior lanterns

#AugustDestinations2025
The Hirosaki Nebuta Matsuri (弘前ねぷたまつり), held in early August each year, is one of Aomori Prefecture's representative summer festivals, alongside the Aomori Nebuta Matsuri. The festival's hallmark is the multi-meter-tall fan-shaped and warrior-themed lanterns, known as neputa. These lanterns, meticulously crafted by various town associations and organizations, are illuminated and depict brave warriors and historical stories, creating a spectacular nighttime parade.

Accompanied by the sounds of taiko drums and flutes, the shouts of "ヤーヤドー" ("Ya-yado") echo through the streets, evoking the lively rhythm and exhilarating atmosphere of the Tsugaru tradition. Unlike the three-dimensional Nebuta in Aomori City, the Hirosaki Neputa primarily features flat fan-shaped lanterns, lending it a more quaint and solemn appearance.

🚋 The main parade takes place in downtown Hirosaki, conveniently located near JR Hirosaki Station. We recommend reserving a spot in advance for the nighttime lantern parade to experience the most stunning visual and auditory experience.
