Hokke specializes in Japanese, Western and Chinese multi-national cuisine breakfast. I have always wanted to try it, so I booked a night while in Hiroshima and it really lived up to its reputation.
Breakfast is served from 6 to 10 o'clock, and the last admission is at 9:30. Once you enter the bright and spacious dining space, it feels like entering a high-end buffet restaurant. The four islands are equipped with different functions, including grilled salmon, horse mackerel, and Hiroshima's specialty gansu, a sweet and sour dish with onions. There are four kinds of lettuce salad and six kinds of dressings including Seto lemon. A bite of dandan noodles, a bite of dipping noodles, stewed beef, chicken rice, Hiroshima meatball soup that looks like Hakka salty rice balls, all in one-mouthful portions, to satisfy your desire to eat as many of the same. There are five or six desserts to choose from, and the bread is pretty standard; but fruits are relatively rare, with only lychees and mangoes available. Even during the peak hours on Sunday morning, meals are still replenished quickly and the dishes are diverse.
Back to the hotel itself, the Hokke Club was founded in 1944 and is one of the earliest business hotel groups. There are only 17 of them in Japan, which is relatively conservative compared to the rapidly developing new brands. The room is of standard design and the bedding is of a certain standard. The large public bath is proud of its bright stone hot springs, which are designed to relieve fatigue. The high ceiling of the bathing area prevents the space from being stuffy. There is a self-service laundry room, and vending machines and ice cubes are provided on each floor, so you don’t have to go too far to get ice cubes.
If you want to try a hearty breakfast, maybe try the Hokke Club when you’re in Hiroshima.
