Experience the Nostalgia of Old Hong Kong on the Herbal Tea Tram

BODW City Programme (CityProg) is part of the Business of Design Week (BODW) organized by the Hong Kong Design Centre and sponsored by Create Hong Kong of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. While the Red Ball Exhibition is the most famous, there are other unexpected surprise exhibitions this December. This annual design festival runs from November 23 to December 29, 2023, with the theme 'Game Changers,' focusing on 'Circular Design' and 'Local Innovators.'

This December, the BODW City Programme will incorporate elements of old Hong Kong, such as colored translucent windows and patterned window designs, giving passengers an experience reminiscent of 1950s Hong Kong. Ride the classic Hong Kong double-decker tram and feel the unique charm of the city, as if traveling through a time tunnel, savoring the enchanting sights of the streets and alleys. The journey starts from Causeway Bay or North Point, passes through Happy Valley, and heads to North Point or Causeway Bay. Each level of the tram offers a distinct experience. The lower level features small tables inspired by traditional Chinese medicine cabinets, allowing passengers to taste and feel the textures and flavors of herbal ingredients, reminiscent of old Hong Kong herbal shops. Meanwhile, the upper level's translucent colored windows and handcrafted iron window grilles add a nostalgic atmosphere to the passing scenery. The changing street scenes, buildings, and alleys outside the windows immerse you in the unique ambiance of old Hong Kong, feeling the passage of time.
