Hong Kong has a new hotspot! The Red-Headed Boat Pavilion at Zhongshan Park Waterfront Promenade officially opened on May 23, 2025.
📚📚📚📚📚📚📚
The red-headed boat originated in the Qing Dynasty when the Guangdong government required ocean-going merchant ships to paint their bows red for easier management, hence the name. Chaoshan is an important birthplace of the red-headed boat. In the past, many Chaoshan people traveled south to Hong Kong on red-headed boats, using the Triangle Pier on Hong Kong Island as a key base to engage in re-export trade and shipping, laying the foundation for Hong Kong’s early economic development. Many Chaoshan people also ventured to Southeast Asia to make a living, embodying the red-headed boat spirit of "hard work, unity, and integrity" to start businesses abroad. The red-headed boat became a symbol of the Chaoshan community and a bridge for economic and cultural exchanges between China and the world.
