If Sai Kung is Hong Kong’s backyard garden, then the small island of Tap Mun is the backyard garden of Sai Kung. 🏝️
Here, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, there are only a few residents on the island and a handful of restaurants. (For some reason, I always end up ordering sea urchin fried rice, even though I don’t like sea urchin. 😂 Probably because I want to try the milk tea at the restaurants here 🧋, the classic Hong Kong-style milk tea, definitely a must-try. 😊)
There aren’t endless streams of tourists here, and for now, you won’t see trash everywhere, which is heartening.
What you will find here is the sea as blue as a jewel 🌊, and friendly cows 🐂. Of course, there are also wild boars 🐗.
In the past, Tap Mun’s cows were fed too much by humans, causing them to lose their ability to forage for food on their own. So when they see tourists’ backpacks or tents, they slowly walk over to beg for food. (Now there are managers who provide extra grass for them, so it’s rare to see them snatching food from tourists.)
I still remember once putting my backpack on the ground to take photos, then noticing a wild boar rummaging through our backpack looking for food.
Animals nowadays are super smart. Remember to take good care of your backpack. 🙈
🌟🌟🌟
If you see cows 🐂 or wild boars 🐗, please, please do not feed them!
Firstly, it makes the animals dependent on humans for food, which destroys their natural foraging abilities. Secondly, according to Hong Kong law, feeding wild animals is illegal! Please do not do this.

If time allows, you can wait until evening to take the boat back and enjoy the stunning sunset 🌄.
