A sense of humor is the perfect balm for hectic city life. Even if the results aren't what you expected, a humorous perspective can still reveal something intriguing and evocative. Comics based on humorous themes appeared in Hong Kong in the early 20th century. Starting in the 1950s, local comics began to gain popularity and gradually became a popular medium for Hong Kong people. Familiar Hong Kong comic characters like Old Master Q, Cowboy, and Shou Xing Zai have accompanied generations of readers, and comics have become an integral part of Hong Kong pop culture.
The exhibition, presented through the perspective of cartoonists, allows visitors to wander through five exhibition areas, encountering comic characters from different eras along the Avenue of Humor. Visitors can learn about the sources of inspiration for these artists and revisit important comic works from the 1950s to the present, along with the creative concepts and artistic characteristics behind them. An eclectic collection of outstanding works by both established and emerging cartoonists invites visitors to savor the unique characteristics of Hong Kong humor and understand the legacy of the Hong Kong comics industry. Visitors can immerse themselves in and experience the cartoonists' creative worlds in various ways, join in on the fun and check in, and enjoy this humorous Hong Kong comics journey. The exhibition hall also features a "Comic Reading" area, showcasing a selection of humorous Hong Kong comics from across the Hong Kong Public Libraries collection, allowing visitors to rediscover the joy of reading comics.
