Lamma Island One-Day Easy Hiking Guide 😎

#September Good Places 2025
Lamma Island — A touch of leisurely color outside of Hong Kong’s bustling city, this trip includes Banyan Bay Avenue, Lamma Island Family Fun Trail, Tung Shue City Beach, and a walk all the way to Sok San Bay. The best thing about this line is that you can eat and enjoy the sea view while walking, and feel the chillest off-island vibe in Hong Kong. The whole route is suitable for relaxing hiking beginners. There are characteristic small shops and rich fishing village flavor along the way. You don't have to worry about getting lost. It's perfect for relaxing yourself on the weekend!

Itinerary inventory recommendation

1️⃣ Banyan Bay Avenue
The all-day Banyan Bay Avenue is the facade of Lamma Island. You will see it when you get off the boat. There are many shops on both sides of the main street, including hipster shops, old-school shops, coffee shops and seafood restaurants. There are also many handicraft shops where you can find Lamma Island-exclusive souvenirs. For brunch, you can choose a cafe for a sandwich with hand-brewed coffee, then buy a can of cold drinks while walking, your body and mind immediately relax.

2️⃣ Lamma Island Family Fun Trail
The Family Fun Trail is the focus of the entire journey, and it is not difficult to walk along the gravel path through the coastal forest. If you don’t want to finish the walk too soon, you can chill near Hong Shing Yeh Bay Beach—the beach is not small and the environment is quite clean. There are many viewing spots along the Family Fun Trail, and occasionally you will see wild birds and butterflies, which feels completely different from the city.

3️⃣ Tundra City Beach
Address: Lamma Island, Hong Kong
Open all day throughout the year
You can rest your legs when you walk to Tundra City Beach. The beach is quiet enough and the water quality is OK, suitable for taking pictures. Next to it is the observation deck of Tundra City, which offers a panoramic view of the entire coast and the sea. In good weather, you can see the direction of the airport.

4️⃣ Thean Hou Temple
Passing by the antique Tin Hau Temple, a landmark cultural relic, you can absorb the cultural atmosphere of Lamma Island while worshiping.

5️⃣ Sok San Bay
Address: Hong Kong
Open all day throughout the year
When you reach the finish line of Sok San Bay, you have to stay hungry before you finish the hike - there are many famous seafood restaurants here, which are authentic enough. Shrimp, crab and boiled mussels are the best rewards for yourself after walking the family trail. It is easy to be crowded during peak season, so we recommend booking in advance. After eating, you can also look at the sea and enjoy the breeze, perfect for a day trip!

🔑 Personal tips & insights
This route really doesn't take much physical effort, there are definitely rest spots on the way, you don't have to bring too much hiking gear to the island, a pair of comfortable sneakers is just fine. You must remember to apply sunscreen when you walk to Tundra Beach. The seaside is quite sunny. Before eating seafood in Sok San Bay, it is recommended to check the opening hours of restaurants. Many small shops close after the sun sets.
