Retro Tea Shop: Maple

Japanese-style coffee shops have been popping up in Hong Kong lately. These cafes are decorated in a predominantly brown palette, with dim lighting, creating a warm and tranquil atmosphere with a strong sense of nostalgia. The name of this shop is also quite retro. The word "coffee" refers to a hairpin used by women, and originated in the Edo period. This word refers to coffee, which was introduced to Japan by the Dutch.

Location: Next to the Bu Ku Coffee Shop, near Exit C of Prince Edward MTR Station, about a ten-minute walk.

Environment: Two rattan chairs and a bicycle at the entrance create a simple and relaxed atmosphere. Stepping inside is like stepping back in time to a retro Japanese-style coffee shop. The dark blue walls are complemented by dark brown wooden chairs and a light mud-yellow hair comb. The retro furnishings include a vinyl record player, table lamp, clock, blue coffee machine, green coffee cups, maple trees, and dried flowers. This fusion of Eastern and Western styles exudes a strong sense of history. Retro lovers will absolutely love this shop. 😍 The food is secondary to the ambiance of this shop.

Service: There were very few people that afternoon, so after buying our coffee and cakes, we were hopping in and out like crazy. The staff were so used to it that they didn't even charge us a surcharge.

Afternoon Tea: 🍰Pandan Kaya Coconut🥥 Chiffon Cake $58
This dessert is our signature 👍🏻. It features three layers of chiffon cake, two layers of fresh cream, and a top layer of shredded coconut🥥. The color combination and flavor are both outstanding.
The cake is soft and fluffy, with a hint of pandan flavor, while the cream is smooth and not greasy, creating a refreshing and sweet aroma.

☕Hot Cappuccino $40
The most special thing about it is the coffee cup. I've only seen it in a coffee shop in Central. It's a highly collectible antique Fire-King cup. I was deeply impressed by the crystal-clear, emerald green glass. I never thought I could enjoy coffee in an antique cup ☕. Now I can enjoy it again, and I'm so happy. As for the coffee, it tastes pretty much the same as in a regular coffee shop.

In short, this is a cafe that lets you immerse yourself in the past 😌 and reminisce about the good old days.
