The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will hold Lantern Festival displays at North District Park and Tsuen Wan Park starting January 31st, welcoming the public to celebrate the Lantern Festival. The displays will run until February 7th and are free of charge.
The New Territories East Lantern Festival display at North District Park, themed "Spring is in the Air – Flowers Bloom, Carp Leap, Rabbits Flutter," features playful and adorable animal and colorful lanterns depicting flowers, birds, insects, and fish, conveying the message of spring's return, the awakening of all things, and the vibrant new year. The display also features lanterns of the LCSD mascots, "Energetic Boy" and "Siwen Cat," dressed in traditional attire, celebrating the Lunar New Year and wishing the public good health and good fortune.
The New Territories West Lantern Festival display at Tsuen Wan Park, themed "Lucky Rabbit Welcoming the Spring, Golden Cat Announcing Good News," welcomes the spring and brings good fortune to the public. In addition to "Energetic Boy" and "Siwen Cat," pandas, rabbits, and other animals are featured, wishing everyone good health and prosperity in the Year of the Rabbit. The lantern show also features the "Auspicious Bridge Walk," featuring colorful hot air balloons adorning a small bridge in the park, allowing visitors to experience the Lantern Festival custom of walking on the bridge, symbolizing blessings and warding off disasters. Visitors can also guess lantern riddles at various lantern show venues to enjoy the festive atmosphere.
The Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza is also hosting the Urban Spring Festival Lantern Show, "Rabbit Brings Good Luck, Lanterns Welcome the New Year." Lanterns featuring the lively rabbit, the powerful lion dance, and traditional Lunar New Year foods and dim sum add to the festive atmosphere.
The lantern show is on from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM daily.
To protect public health, all visitors to the lantern show are required to wear masks, including while taking photos.
