Bird Stepping Stone Park in Hualien Port

[Hualien Port Bird Stepping Stone Park] was formerly known as [Eguchi Ryosaburo Memorial Park] and was renamed in August 2019. There are Japanese torii and memorial stone tablets in the park. It commemorates Director Eguchi Ryosaburo who built a horseshoe-shaped breakwater along the Bird Stepping Stone in 1922 to facilitate the berthing of fishing boats. He was an important figure in the birth of Hualien Port. After the director's death, the people in the Hualien area appreciated his efforts in the Hualien port construction plan and his contribution to the development of the fishery industry, and specially erected a memorial stone tablet and bronze statue on the former coast to pay tribute to him. Therefore, this Torii Park is also the only public park in Hualien City with Japanese-style Torii buildings.
