There are three Tropic of Cancer landmarks on the main island of Taiwan: Shuishang Township in Chiayi County, Ruisui Township in Hualien County (mountainous terrain), and Fengbin Township on the coastal route. The Tropic of Cancer crosses several Taiwanese counties and cities, including Penghu County, Chiayi County, Kaohsiung City, Nantou County, Hualien County, and Taitung County. Today, we traveled along Provincial Highway 9 in the Hualien-Taitung Valley to the Tropic of Cancer Landmark Park in Ruisui Township, Hualien County. If you're passing through the Ruisui section of Provincial Highway 9 in the Hualien-Taitung Valley when arriving in or leaving Hualien, you'll likely want to stop here for a rest before continuing your journey or returning home. The Tropic of Cancer Landmark Park in Ruisui Township features several unique art installations. To the right of the entrance steps is a very cute, oversized teapot. A red paper with a Ruisui Honey Fragrance Black Tea logo is affixed to the teapot, indicating that Honey Fragrance Black Tea is one of Ruisui's specialty products. On the left, there's a sign marking the Tropic of Cancer Park and a sundial behind it. Surrounding it are four traditional astronomical animals: the Azure Dragon in the East, the White Tiger in the West, the Vermillion Bird in the South, and the Black Tortoise in the North, known as the "Four Symbols." These animals represent the changing weather patterns of spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Finally, there's the Tropic of Cancer monument. On either side of the park, vendors sell agricultural products and food. The Tropic of Cancer passes through cities in 16 countries worldwide and is a crucial dividing line on Earth. Its significance lies in marking the boundary between the tropics and subtropics. It also marks the northernmost point of direct sunlight during the summer solstice, a position of great geographical and astronomical significance.
