Thought Huangshan was beautiful enough, until I took my kid to the neighboring place…

In September this year, we actually discovered a family-friendly treasure in Anhui with fewer people than Huangshan and even more magical than Guilin! Although it’s a famous Taoist mountain, there aren’t many tourists, making it peaceful and mysterious. On rainy days, the whole mountain is shrouded in mist, and my kid kept exclaiming, “It’s like a fairyland!” There are real Taoist monks practicing on the mountain, and the kids were so curious they kept asking if they could become little immortals~ Even Xu Xiake couldn’t forget this place, truly perfect for broadening kids’ horizons!

📍Qiyun Mountain

🚄 Family-friendly transportation: Take the high-speed train to Yixian East or Huangshan North, then taxi or scenic area shuttle bus directly to the site. For families with kids, renting a car is more convenient and less tiring.

🗺️ Two-day, one-night relaxed itinerary:

Day 1: Take the cable car up in the morning for an easy small loop hike, spend the afternoon strolling along Yuehua Tianjie Street drinking free hot tea, and in the evening go down the mountain to watch the intangible cultural heritage iron flower performance—kids were excited the whole time!

Day 2: Take a bamboo raft on Hengjiang River (feels like entering Guilin’s landscape), take some family photos, and slowly head back in the afternoon.

🏨 Family-friendly accommodation:

At the foot of the mountain, choose Baiyue or Yuehua Hotel, right next to the cable car! Or stay on Yuehua Tianjie Street on the mountain, where you can see the sea of clouds from your window in the early morning—kids were so excited they were jumping around~

✨ Kid-favorite spots to check in:

▪️ Shouzi Rock: Touch the 9-meter-high “Shou” character written by Zhu Xi, teach kids about blessings and meanings, and take memorable photos!

▪️ Zhenxian Cave: Colorful cliff carvings with mountain spring pools, kids watch and listen to stories wide-eyed the whole time.

▪️ Yuehua Tianjie Street: Rest and drink tea in a thousand-year-old cliff village, kids snack while watching Xianglu Peak, relaxing without tiring their backs.

▪️ Yuxu Palace: A red-walled Taoist temple embedded in the cliff, find the authentic Tang Bohu stone tablet, a great history lesson for kids.

▪️ Fangla Zhai: The small white house on the mountaintop looks like a fairy tale castle, kids exclaimed “I want to live there!” from the drone’s view!

⚠️ Family tips:

Take the small loop instead of the big loop for a more relaxed 3-hour hike! Dress kids in non-slip shoes, go down the cable car an hour early to avoid queues. Bring a jacket, the mountain breeze is a bit cool~

🌃 Don’t miss the night:

The intangible cultural heritage night tour at the foot of the mountain really understands kids! The iron flower performance looks like a meteor shower, fish lanterns and dragon boat parade, kids chase the show holding sparklers, no dull moments at all!
