[China, Huzhou] The rustic water town of Nanxun Ancient Town: A city where Chinese and Western architecture blend together

Nanxun Ancient Town is an old water town in Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province. It is not very major and has not been commercialized, so it still retains a simple atmosphere.

Although it is a tourist destination, people still live here, and I was able to get a glimpse of the lives of people living in the water town, such as washing their clothes in the waterway.

The architecture here is also a little different from other ancient towns! Several private residences of wealthy people from the late Qing to the Republic era are open to the public, and the former residence of Zhang Shiming (built 1899-1905) is particularly interesting for its fusion of Western and Chinese architecture!

Pic6 is a building that was used as a dance hall. Western dance had arrived in China around this time.

Also, the entrance to the room in pic7 has a relief of a banana leaf, the window has a banana leaf pattern, and the French tiles are so innovative.

Recommended for architecture lovers!
