Tsemo Castle, an ancient castle atop a hill in Leh
Tsemo Castle, also known as Namgyal Tsemo Fort, is one of Leh's most iconic scenic spots and historical landmarks. Built around the 15th century by King Taesang Namgyal, the castle stands majestically atop a high hill, visible from almost every corner of Leh. The climb may be arduous, but it's well worth it. Upon reaching the top, you'll be greeted by the remains of the ancient castle and breathtaking panoramic views of the Leh Valley, the Indus River, and the Himalayas. The nearby Tsemo Gompa, home to ancient Buddha statues, makes this not only a scenic destination, but also a place steeped in spiritual power and rich history. #lehladakh
