I had the pleasure of dining at Restaurant Sin Hup Kee in Ipoh with a group of local friends, and it was a fantastic experience that perfectly blended warm hospitality with authentic Chinese flavours. Known for its seafood and local delights, this restaurant lived up to its reputation in every way.
We ordered a variety of dishes to share, and each one had its own highlight:
▶️ Marmite Chicken, crispy on the outside, tender inside, and coated with a rich, slightly sweet glaze that was incredibly addictive. A definite crowd- pleaser.
▶️ Poached Kampung Chicken, simple yet full of flavour, the chicken was succulent with a natural sweetness that only true kampung chicken can offer. It paired well with the house-made dipping sauces.
▶️ Signature Pork Rib, fall-off-the-bone tender and glazed with a sticky, flavourful sauce. This was easily one of the stars of the meal.
▶️ Steamed Fresh Water Prawns, a delicacy done right. The prawns were huge, sweet, and fresh, with steamed eggs as base, enhanced by a light soy-based sauce that didn’t overpower their natural flavour.
▶️ Homemade Golden Tofu, silky smooth inside with a crisp golden crust. This tofu had a homemade charm and was beautifully complemented by the savory gravy it came with.
The atmosphere was lively yet comfortable, making it perfect for a meal with friends. Service was attentive without being intrusive, and the staff was helpful in recommending their best dishes.
⭐ Rating: 4.9/5. Overall, Sin Hup Kee is a gem for anyone looking to enjoy hearty Chinese food in Ipoh. Fresh ingredients, well-executed dishes, and a warm local vibe, definitely worth a visit!
