🏘 Wat Pa Dara Phirom, a third-class royal temple, was declared a temple in 1938 and consecrated in 1980.
🏕 Its origins stem from the pilgrimage of Venerable Ajahn Man Phurithatto, who took up residence in an abandoned cemetery adjacent to Suan Chao Sabai, the Dara Phirom Palace of Princess Dara Rasami, the consort of King Rama V. The site was a peaceful and tranquil place for meditation, and monks regularly visited the site to practice meditation.
🙏🏽 Upon seeing the site, the villagers became enthralled and built various buildings for the Sangha to use for their monastic duties.
🎄 In 1941, Prince Ladakham Na Chiang Mai, the heir of Princess Dara Rasami, donated the land within the palace grounds to the temple.
Highlights and significance within the temple include:
🏠 The Ubosot (ordination hall) houses the principal Buddha image, Phra Sayamphu Lokanat, in the Sukhothai-style meditation posture.
🏚 The Ho Kham Luang (wihan) houses numerous Buddha images. The principal Buddha image is enshrined in a pavilion, named Phra Phuttha Maha Thammakarajathirat Chao Phraya Thammachakraphat.
⛺ The Phra Kaew Hall (Ho Phra Kaew) or the Chulamani Sri Borommathat Pavilion.
🛕 Phra Phuttha Karun Kittikhun Khachon (Phra That Chedi Phra Phutthabat Si Roi), enshrining replicas of the Buddha's footprints, in a Sukhothai-style adaptation.
🙏🏽 The Phra Chao Tan Jai Pavilion, in the Lanna Chiang Tung style, houses a Chiang Saen-style Buddha image.
