Underground Wonder and Cool Vibes at Basilica Cistern

#holidayitinerary Exploring the Basilica Cistern in Istanbul was seriously awesome. It felt like stepping into a movie set or some ancient secret place. Once you walk down the stairs, it’s all dark, moody, and super atmospheric with soft lights reflecting off the water and those massive stone columns everywhere. It’s crazy to think this whole place was built way back in the 6th century and it’s still standing strong.

The Medusa head sculptures at the base of a couple columns were super cool and kind of mysterious. I loved the sound of dripping water echoing through the space, it added to the whole underground vibe. It’s not a big place so you can walk around in under an hour, but it leaves a lasting impression for sure. Great place to escape the heat too since it’s nice and cool down there. If you're into history or just cool hidden places, the Basilica Cistern is definitely worth checking out.
