Tokyo One-Day Trip to Izu|Complete Transportation and Travel Guide

🏞️ Kawabata Yasunari wrote in "The Izu Dancer":
Izu is the homeland of poetry, so people say.
Izu is a gallery of all mountain and sea landscapes, one could also say.

From "The Izu Dancer" to "Your Name," Izu is trending again this summer. As a great getaway near Tokyo, here’s a guide and some insights for a one-day round trip to Izu this summer.

❤️ Key Points: Start Early + Time It Right
The one-way trip from Tokyo to Izu takes about 2 hours. If you plan to visit the zoo, aim to arrive in Izu by 12 PM. If not, try to get there by 1 PM for a more relaxed schedule.

1️⃣ Tokyo → Ito Station (You can choose to get off at Ito Station or Izu-Kogen Station; there’s not much difference)
🚗: Tokyo Station ➡️ Shinkansen ➡️ Atami ➡️ JR Odoriko Line ➡️ Ito Station
❗️Tips: You can buy Shinkansen tickets online or offline. Tokyo Station is large, so allocate enough time for ticket collection and purchase. Trains from Atami to Ito Station run about every 45 minutes, so plan accordingly to avoid long waits.

2️⃣ Ito Station → Mount Omuro
🚗: Take a bus from Bus Stop 5 at Ito Station to シャボテン (Shaboten) Station.
❗️Buy a 900-yen one-day bus pass at the ticket counter right outside Ito Station. Show the pass when boarding the bus, no additional payment needed. Alternatively, you can use a Suica card or pay in cash.
🎫 Mount Omuro Ticket: 1,000 yen
🕙 Suggested Time: 1 hour
⛰️ Take a cable car to the summit for a circular walk around the mountain. Enjoy breathtaking views of the mountains and sea, lush greenery, and a gentle breeze—truly a healing experience.

3️⃣ Mount Omuro → Cactus Zoo
The zoo is right across from Mount Omuro, just a one-minute walk. If time is tight, you can skip this. Here, you can interact closely with capybaras, alpacas, and more.
🎫 Zoo Ticket: 2,700 yen (200 yen discount with Mount Omuro ticket)
🕙 Suggested Time: 1-2 hours

4️⃣ Cactus Zoo → Jogasaki Coast
🚗: Take a bus from the stop opposite Mount Omuro ➡️ Bus ➡️ Jogasaki Coast Bus Stop (Izukaiyo Park).
🎫 Admission: Free
❗️Tips: Buses run every 40 minutes on average, so queue up in advance.
❗️Walk to the suspension bridge photo spot. There are two routes: coastal (1.1 km) or forested (0.8 km). The coastal route is recommended for sea breezes and ocean views.
🕙 Suggested Time: 1 hour
🌸 The coastal trail is more rugged than expected, giving off a "Temple Run" vibe. The moment you see the ocean is breathtaking—sun and moon shining together, sea and sky blending as one. It’s hard not to feel the romance!

5️⃣ Jogasaki Coast → Jogasaki Kaigan Station
🚗: Take a bus (20 minutes) or walk (40 minutes).
❗️Tips: Buses stop running around 6 PM, and walking can be tiring, so plan your time wisely.
