Stained Glass Dreams on a Rainy Day in Izu

#hellohalloween

Rainy days during a trip can feel disappointing—but not when you discover hidden gems like the Kawana Stained Glass Museum in Izu. Tucked away in the coastal town of Kawana, this elegant museum is the perfect indoor escape when the weather isn’t cooperating.

The building itself feels like a European manor, with soft classical music playing in the background and the scent of incense gently filling the halls. Inside, you’re surrounded by stunning antique stained glass works, many of which date back to the 19th and early 20th centuries. The craftsmanship is breathtaking—when the light filters through, the glass glows in rich blues, reds, and golds. It’s almost like walking through a storybook chapel.

One of my favorite spots was a room filled with glowing stained glass panels and softly lit pews—it felt sacred and calming. This museum isn’t huge, but it’s beautifully curated and perfect for slow, mindful exploration.

If you’re ever in Izu on a rainy day (or even a sunny one!), this museum is definitely worth a visit.
