📍Hallasan Baekrokdam
-Gwaneumsa~Seongpanak Course
There are many courses on Hallasan! There are only two courses where you can see Baekrokdam✌️, the Gwaneumsa Course and Seongpanak Course.⛰️ The difficulty level is very high because you can see Baekrokdam! (The trail is long and the difficulty of the hike is high, so the website recommends group hiking, warning of safety accidents such as leg fractures or exhaustion due to exhaustion!)😱
The Gwaneumsa course is more difficult than Seongpanak, but there are many nearby natural attractions.🌳 On the other hand, the Seongpanak course is gentler than Gwaneumsa and the distant scenery is beautiful.⛰️ Since there are usually many injuries when descending, we decided to go up to Gwaneumsa and come down Seongpanak.🥾
Hallasan at the end of February was in the middle of winter, to the point where the phrase "spring in March" seemed meaningless.❄️ At the beginning, the snow had melted and the ground was muddy, but after about an hour and a half to two hours of climbing, it started to turn into a snowy mountain.🏔 It was my first time climbing a proper snowy mountain, and I felt with my body that crampons and hiking sticks were essential! Nevertheless, Hallasan covered in white snow was enchanting. It felt like I was in a dream the whole way up.☺️
On February 25th, when we climbed, we hurried up because they said there might be a strong wind warning.🏃♀️ The path to Baekrokdam on Hallasan can be controlled depending on the weather, so you need luck. When we reached the summit, the wind was so strong that it was hard to support myself, so I understood why it was controlled.🌬 It was difficult to eat at the summit, so we ate lunch at Jindallae Shelter on the way down.🍜 We climbed nonstop for a total of 8 hours, but I recommend leaving early and taking it easy by setting aside 9-10 hours.👍
Many people wonder how they can carry heavy equipment like crampons, hiking boots, and hiking sticks all the way to Jeju Island.🥾 I was able to travel to Jeju Island lightly by using a service called Oshare that rents and returns them in Jeju Island! (My own review!) In addition to mountaineering equipment, they also rent camping, snow cooling, cameras, and other equipment, so I think it would be good to use them.👍
✔️The most important thing for winter hiking is body temperature control. Wear several thin layers that make you wonder if it's okay to wear this many thick layers. It gets very cold when you reach the summit🥶
✔️You have to make reservations online for the Seongpanak Course and Gwaneumsa Course, so you definitely have to make a reservation in advance. The number of people allowed per day is limited⏰️
✔️Ice axes, hiking sticks, gloves, and hats are essential!🧤
✔️For meals, use combat rations, heat-generating foods, and thermos flasks.🍴
