Jerusalem History Museum - Tower of David

The Tower of David is not just a fortress, but a museum converted from a real archaeological site. Here, visitors can learn about the history of Jerusalem through historical artifacts of Christianity, Judaism and Islam. It is an attraction integrating education, entertainment and cultural relics.

The Tower of David is located next to the Jaffa Gate, one of the eight gates in the Old City, and is very conspicuous. However, although this fortress is called the Tower of David, the second king of Israel, King David, never lived here. It was originally a defensive tower built by King Herod. Later, due to a misunderstanding, it was taken over by the Byzantines. The church thought it was the City of David, so it added the Tower of David mark on the map until 1967, when Israel defeated the Egyptian, Jordanian and Syrian coalition forces after the Six-Day War, and took over the Tower of David in 1988. It was converted into a museum in 2006.

The Tower of David Museum records the history of Jerusalem for more than 3,000 years and has witnessed many changes in Jerusalem. The museum not only provides historical exhibits for viewing, but also many temporary exhibits about the castle and its history for viewing. The museum is divided into three themed areas. If you want to understand the history of Jerusalem in various eras, the Jerusalem History Exhibition Area is not to be missed. The walkway around the city leads to the Fassel Tower, the highest point in the Old City, offering a 360-degree bird's-eye view of Jerusalem. The Central Courtyard Archaeological Park displays buildings, towers and city walls from different periods. Visitors who are interested in archaeological remains should not miss it.

The Tower of David is wonderful during the day, but it turns out to be just as good at night. Two night spectacles will be staged at the Tower of David in the evening. Laser light is projected onto the ancient city wall next to the entrance. The stones and buildings on the wall are integrated into the images, and combined with the surround three-dimensional music, create a full sound and light effect. An audio-visual feast. There are two main performances, one tells the thousand-year story of Jerusalem, and the other tells the turbulent life of David. However, since there are not performances every night, it is recommended to book tickets online in advance. For details, please visit the official website below.

This year, with the support of the Jerusalem Development Authority, the Tower of David also teamed up with Australia’s Lithodomos VR to launch Israel’s first mobile virtual reality tour of a monument. After wearing VR glasses, the historical landscape can appear vividly in front of tourists, just like being in Jerusalem 2,000 years ago, allowing people to enter history more easily and vividly and understand the history of Jerusalem.
