This is my second time visiting this beautiful border city. I started my one-day tour of Jiamusi city center in the rainy weather.
First stop: Sifengshan Scenic Area. I took an online car from the train station (fare 14 yuan) and arrived at the scenic area just at 8 o'clock (see travel notes for details).
Second stop: Liu Yingjun Martyrs Memorial Hall. After leaving Sifengshan Scenic Area, I took a taxi (fare 21 yuan) to get there. As a native of Changchun, Liu Yingjun’s hometown, paying tribute to the hero was an important part of this Jiamusi trip. At the entrance of the park is a statue of Liu Yingjun bravely stopping a frightened horse to save six Young Pioneers. This is the place where the hero sacrificed his life; he rests here. I stood solemnly in front of the martyr’s portrait to express my deep respect. I felt a bit disappointed because the memorial hall is currently closed for upgrades. After explaining my intentions, the staff invited me in to take a look and told me to come back on March 15 next year, the 60th anniversary of Liu Yingjun’s sacrifice.
Third stop: After leaving the Liu Yingjun Memorial Hall, I took bus No. 1 to Jiamusi Museum. Unfortunately, the museum is closed for relocation.
Fourth stop: Riverside Park. I walked to Riverside Park in the rain. When in Jiamusi, you must take a stroll by the river. Entering from the Zhiqing Square, this place records the experiences of the educated youth sweating to build Beidahuang. We have not forgotten that in 1958, 100,000 demobilized soldiers went to Beidahuang to build and develop the borderlands with dedication. By the river, the song "Song of the Beidahuang People" is played. At the Yiku Sitiansquare, the "Three Transformations and One Sound" displayed represent the life our generation personally experienced. Seeing the familiar old parts seemed to take me back to those years. At the "Our Workers Have Strength" square, the song’s author, Ma Ke, composed it here in Jiamusi. This heroic city was once the capital of Hejiang Province, the first provincial-level people's government established by the Party after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. Then I came to Songhua River Square, where the tall memorial tower was built in 1959 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic, becoming a landmark of Jiamusi.
Fifth stop: Xilin Park. After leaving Riverside Park, I walked to Xilin Park. It has a long history, founded in 1940, divided into east and west parts. In 1946, it was renamed Xilin Park after the burial of martyr Sun Xilin. There is a Soviet Red Army Martyrs Memorial Tower here. A local told me that the East Garden was once a zoo after liberation. The park after the rain was especially fresh. I strolled through the park, enjoying the flowers, plants, and trees, fully immersed and feeling joyful.
