Must-see in Jiaxing! Climb the seven-story pagoda and overlook Nanhu Lake

📌Attraction introduction

Haogu Pagoda is one of the seven pagodas and eight temples in ancient Jiaxing, with a rich historical background. It was first built in the Five Dynasties or Northern Song Dynasty and was rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty. The Yuan Dynasty painter Wu Zhen included it in the "Eight Views of Jiahe", which shows its fame at that time. It is named for its location north of the city moat, where the water bends like a share. The pagoda collapsed in the 1960s and was rebuilt on the old site of Shaoyuan in Nanhu in 2004 and opened to the public. The current pagoda is 63.36m high with seven floors. It is a pavilion-style building that follows the Song Dynasty style and has a cloister around it. Each floor has Buddha statues on the four corners of the upturned eaves, with wind chimes hanging underneath. When the wind blows, the bells ring, creating a full artistic conception. Haogu Pagoda is not only an architectural treasure, but also a witness to Jiaxing's history and culture, carrying the footprints of countless literati and poets. Su Dongpo also came here to drink tea and talk.
