Background
Amari Johor Bahru is a 5-star hotel located in Johor Bahru’s Central Business District on Jalan Wong Ah Fook / Jalan Trus Road, right opposite Komtar JBCC and close to City Square Mall, Persada Johor Convention Centre, and many dining / entertainment options.  It opened in May 2017 with 242 rooms and suites, designed by designers who blended Malaysian cultural touches with modern Thai design influences. 

What It Offers
Rooms range across several categories: Superior (~28-35 sqm), Deluxe (~32-40 sqm), Grand Deluxe (~39-44 sqm), Deluxe Pool-Access (~32 sqm), Executive Club rooms, and suites (Junior Suite ~51 sqm, One Bedroom Suite ~69 sqm).  The hotel has Halal-certified kitchens, with its all-day dining Amaya Food Gallery, the casual Amaya Café, and Dip Bar by the pool.  Amenities include an outdoor pool with children’s pool, Breeze Spa, fitness centre (FIT Centre), executive lounge, and large meeting / event spaces including several banquet halls and outdoor terrace venues. 

Why It’s Worth Visiting
Amari excels in location and modern comfort: walking distance to major malls (Komtar JBCC, City Square), close to transport hubs (JB Sentral, MRT access), and only about 50 minutes from Senai Airport, one hour from Changi Airport (Singapore).  The views, especially from higher-floor rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows, command the city skyline by night and greenery by day. 

My Impression
Staying at Amari felt like having an elegant, well-crafted urban base. The rooms are bright, the beds comfortable, and the design details (lighting, wood panels, art, subtle cultural motifs) add warmth. I particularly appreciated the poolside bar evenings when the city lights come on, and the convenience of stepping out of the hotel into the buzz of JB’s shops, cafés, and food scenes. For travellers who want luxury without being remote, Amari strikes a fine balance.
