Explore Kagoshima City

If you have time or a Kyushu Rail Pass, we highly recommend visiting Kagoshima City. You can make a day trip from Kumamoto, or even stay overnight—it’s absolutely worth it!

One of the must-visit spots is the Tenmonkan shopping district. This area is packed with restaurants, shops, and souvenir stores showcasing the best of Kagoshima. Additionally, it’s surrounded by numerous shopping malls.

For food lovers, you’ll find everything from the famous Kurobuta pork, yakiniku barbecue, tonkatsu, to ramen—all in one place. And if you’re looking for souvenirs from Sakurajima Island, there are shops here that sell them as well.
