Chikan Ancient Town is located on the bank of Tanjiang River in the central part of Guangdong Province’s Greater Bay Area, 12 kilometers away from Kaiping’s central urban area. There are public buses from Kaiping City to the town, so transportation is quite convenient.
Chikan was built along the Tanjiang River, with a village on the south bank and a city on the north bank. It is full of arcades, far smaller than the huge Western-style buildings in Kaiping Old Street. There are Didong and Dixi Roads along the river, and Zhonghua Road running parallel to them. There is also a small road called "Ermalu" sandwiched between the two roads. These are the three horizontal roads parallel to the river, and there are many longitudinal roads intersecting with them to form the road network in the urban area. Chikan Town has an ancient flavor that combines Chinese and Western styles. Therefore, it is known as the "Fifth Famous Ancient Town in China".
With more than 600 arcades, it is the largest, most continuous and best preserved in the country. Some streets in Chikan have kept their original appearance, and each arcade still maintains its mottled walls. The old port wharf in the past seems to be telling the stories of the older generation of overseas Chinese.
Friends who come to Kaiping for sightseeing can check in here.
