This road of Kamakura Wakamiya is definitely a landmark full of history. Walking it once is like being transported to the samurai era in an instant! 🤩 Built by the founder of the shogunate, Gen Yoritomo, the shrine extends from Hibinhai to Tsuruoka Hachimangu Shrine. It is not only the geographical center of gravity, but also the spiritual bond that tightly connects modern and ancient Kamakura!
The most special must be the "Duan Ge" structure with a high center and low sides, which once represented the majesty of the samurai. Walking among the towering cherry and fir trees on either side seems to be cut off from the outside world, with a natural tunnel surrounding you. Every season is super beautiful: cherry blossoms are flying all over the sky in spring, greenery in summer, red maple leaves in autumn, and strong branches in winter. 👣Walking on the gravel road, the sound of footsteps and the tranquil atmosphere all around, it really feels like hearing the echo of history!
It’s not just the road, it’s more like a pilgrimage of the mind. At the end of the walk you will see Tsuruoka Hachimangu Shrine (address: 1-31 Yukinoshita 2-chome, Kamakura, Kanagawa), the most representative faith and political landmark of Kamakura. The road design brings out a sense of solemnity and sacredness, so that every step you take has a sense of ceremony✨!
When you go to Kamakura for a day trip, you must check in on Wakamiya-Oji! Walk in the historical corridor, feel the thousand-year-old samurai culture, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the four seasons
