Kanazawa's "Kaimemachi Teahouse Street" seems to have gone back to the Edo period. Unlike the popular "Higashi Chaya Street", it is not as noisy and bustling as this place. Instead, it is more peaceful and elegant. Along the banks of the Asano River, wooden lattice windows and reddish-brown facades are lined up in order. It is one of the most well-preserved teahouse streets in Kanazawa.
In the evening, the lanterns of the traditional teahouses gradually light up, and occasionally you can hear the sound of geisha shamisen and singing from the depths, which makes people unconsciously slow down their pace. Some old teahouses have been converted into high-end Japanese cuisine restaurants, art exhibition spaces, and there are also specialty cafes for people to rest.
The quiet atmosphere here is especially suitable for a walk alone or a couple. Don't forget to walk up "Angarizaka", a small staircase leading to the old teahouse, which adds a sense of mystery and nostalgia.
📍Check-in location: Kanazawa City Kazuemachi Tea House Street (about 10 minutes walk from Higashi Tea House Street)
