🌨 Zheduo Mountain — First Gateway to Tibet, Last Stop in Sichuan

If you’re taking the iconic National Highway 318 towards Tibet, Zheduo Mountain (折多山) is a dramatic, high-altitude checkpoint at 4,298m above sea level. It’s beautiful, harsh, and absolutely unforgettable.
🌀 Altitude warning: This place is no joke. You’ll feel the height — it’s the kind of place that hits you the moment you step out of the car. If you haven’t acclimatized yet, take it slow.
🚌 Winding roads ahead: “Zheduo” literally means “many folds,” and it lives up to its name. The road twists endlessly. Bring motion sickness pills if you need them!
🌫 Fog vs Wind: The fog comes and goes quickly — one minute you’re staring at mountain views, the next you’re in a cloud. But the wind? That never stops. It’s icy cold and intense, so wear a hat to protect your head from the chill — especially at this altitude.
🚗 Parking problems: If you’re coming from the Chengdu side, expect long traffic lines and tight parking. Most cars end up double-parking on the roadside.
🚻 Toilet tip: Facilities are basic, and the queue for the women’s toilet gets long. Use the escalator to go down through the shops — it’s the faster route.
📸 Scenic spot: You can get some incredible panoramic views at the lookout point. If you can handle the altitude, do the short climb. On a clear day, you’ll see snow-capped peaks in the distance. Worth it.
🧤 Dress warm. Move slow. Soak it in. Summer or no summer BRING THICK JACKET!!!
