Biji Lane, located west of Changzhou City and adjacent to the Grand Canal, is the site of the ancient Piling Posthouse and formerly known as " Flower Market Street . " In ancient times, comb shops lined the lane, with the main focus being the production and sale of combs, with shops in front and workshops in the back. This led to the saying, " Yangzhou rouge, Suzhou flowers, Changzhou's top comb shop . " During Emperor Qianlong's southern tour, he observed the numerous comb shops and renamed Flower Market Street Biji Lane, a name that remains to this day.

Changzhou has long been renowned for its production of grate dustpans and wooden combs, earning it the reputations of " Famous Imperial Combs " and " Changzhou Combs Are the Best in the World . " Throughout the streets and alleys, every household makes a living making combs, crafted from fine materials and meticulously crafted. Among these shops, the Zhenlaobu Hengshun Comb Shop is the most renowned.

In ancient times, every shop in Biji Alley was decorated with palace lanterns at night, and every workshop had hanging lights, often burning all night long. The glittering lights reflected in the canal waters and on the boats along the shore. The interplay of lights, viewed from Wenheng Bridge from afar, resembled a golden dragon, a magnificent and captivating spectacle. This scene is known as " Biliang Lanterns , " one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Changzhou's Western Suburbs .
