Japanese Heritage Sites in Kaohsiung City: Enjoying Wagashi on Tatami Mats

💞 Recommended Reason:
Xiaoyao Garden is a beautifully restored building through Taiwan-Japan collaboration. The renovated Japanese architecture retains its original design and offers guided tours. There's also a small air-raid shelter with historical explanations.
🏖️ Atmosphere/Facilities:
The first floor features a gift shop and a wagashi shop called 'Tsutamachi Imperial Tea House' with reasonable prices but a minimum spend of 150 TWD. The second floor introduces the history of Xiaoyao Garden and its owner, Otani Kozui, the head priest of Nishi Honganji Temple in Kyoto, who was proficient in Chinese despite being Japanese.
Visitors need to remove their shoes to visit the second floor, which recreates Otani Kozui's living space, including his study and bedroom.
Admission is free, and there's a large parking lot nearby. The first floor's dining hall and air-raid shelter preserve historical traces from the past. The entire area is not large, and a leisurely visit takes about 30-40 minutes. Both floors are air-conditioned.
