My afternoon at RAR BAR: From the book wall to the blue lights, to the twilight of the harbor

I was first captivated by the lofty "wine library"-like book wall in the lobby, its stacked wooden cabinets creating a sense of order. Heading up to the 24th floor, above the bar, a blue light strip and mirror installation refracts light off the glass windows and stainless steel, perfect for taking photos. Window seats offer a view all the way to the harbor, where the cloud images seem to capture the sea breeze within the creases of the sky. The indoor volume is subdued, creating a comfortable soundstage for conversation. Stepping outside, you'll find the poolside of the transparent, cantilevered infinity pool—a rare urban landscape in Kaohsiung and the very essence of RAR BAR (located on the 24th floor, overlooking the infinity pool).

We ordered three dishes: creamy wild mushroom pasta, black truffle and porcini risotto, or a carpaccio appetizer (depending on the menu), and truffle fries. The pasta had a springy texture, and the sauce was light yet fragrant. The carpaccio appetizer featured balsamic and baby sprouts, the acidity brightening the fat. The truffle fries had photogenic, sharp corners, and a sprinkle of Parmesan for a crispy texture.
