If you enjoy visiting historical sites or want to take some uniquely cool photos, you absolutely must visit Zuoying's "Fengshan County Old City"! This isn't a single building, but rather a vast expanse of city wall ruins. Walking along the creased walls and gazing at the moat below truly feels like stepping back in time. 🏯
The only caveat is that the old city is quite large, with walls and gates scattered throughout Zuoying, requiring quite a bit of walking to get between them. It can be very hot in the summer, so remember to wear sunscreen and drink plenty of water!
🧱 Atmosphere/Facilities:
The most famous section here is the "East Gate," where the walls and gates are the most well-preserved and the perfect spot for photos! You can walk up the wall directly, and the views from above are stunning. The winding lines of the wall against the blue sky create a breathtaking atmosphere in any photo.
I personally recommend visiting in the evening; the sunset casts a warm glow on the ancient city walls, creating a truly beautiful scene. At night, the city walls are illuminated, creating a completely different atmosphere than during the day.
In addition to the East Gate, you can also explore the South Gate and North Gate. The North Gate still retains a section of the "horse path," a path once used by horses, which is quite unique. The entire Old City is like an outdoor history classroom, allowing you to stroll and imagine what life was like here in the past.
Next to the East Gate is Lotus Pond, which can be combined with attractions like the Dragon and Tiger Pagoda and the Spring and Autumn Pavilion. It's a great way to explore the Old City first and then stroll along Lotus Pond for a smoother itinerary. This area is also one of the exhibition areas for the Kaohsiung Lantern Festival, and it's even more lively during the festival!
