Kashihara Jingu-mae Station: A Terminal Born to Commemorate the 2600th Year of the Japanese Imperial Era

Kintetsu Kashihara-Jingu-Mae Station, the terminal station in Minami-Wa, serves approximately 17,000 passengers daily. It's served by the Kashihara Line, Minami-Osaka Line, and Yoshino Line, and is popular among train enthusiasts for its standard-gauge and narrow-gauge service. 🚉

The concourse has a unique structure, as the original Osaka Electric Tramway (Kashihara Line), Osaka Railway (Minami-Osaka Line), and Yoshino Railway (Yoshino Line) were all combined into one station. 😯

The symbolic central station building, welcoming many visitors to Kashihara Shrine, was completed in 1940. It was built in conjunction with the expansion and renovation of Kashihara Shrine to commemorate the 2,600th anniversary of the founding of the Imperial Era.

Designed by Togo Murano (1891-1984). He was a representative architect of the Showa era, and designed many buildings from the prewar and postwar periods, including the Nissay Theater (Tokyo, 1963). ✍️

Kintetsu was also a patron of Murano, commissioning him to design not only the Kashiharajingu-mae Station building, but also the Kintetsu Department Stores (Abeno Branch and Uehommachi Branch), the company's headquarters, and the Kashikojima Station building.

Murano's architecture can be seen in Nara Prefecture, including the former Saeki Residence (Shohaku Museum of Art, Nara City), as well as temples such as Shigisan Jofuku-in Temple (Heguri Town) and Sakurai-dera Temple (Gojo City), so be sure to check them out.

The station building features an impressive Yamato-style roof covered with copper plates, slate, and roof tiles. Its linear, powerful exterior exudes an atmosphere reminiscent of the neoclassical architecture used in Nazi Germany. 🇩🇪

Entering the entrance, you'll find an open space with a 7-meter ceiling and a 16.4-meter depth. The ceiling features a majestic chandelier, and the walls are also beautiful, featuring mosaics from Kashihara Shrine and reliefs of the Yamato Sanzan mountains. 🎶

War is not a good thing, but this majestic station building exists because it survived that turbulent time. Experience prewar Japanese nationalism along with Kashihara Shrine and Kashihara Park. 🇯🇵
