Altyn-Emel is wild, quiet, and full of jaw-dropping landscapes. I saw “singing dunes” that hum in the wind, rainbow-colored mountains (called Aktau), and wild gazelles sprinting across the steppe. It’s a long drive from Almaty, but if you love raw nature with no crowds, this is it. I joined a jeep tour for two days and stayed in a remote guest camp.
