Recently, I had the opportunity to visit the Mashan Observation Station in Kinmen. This military outpost, located at the northern tip of Kinmen, not only bears witness to the historical confrontation between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait but also serves as a thought-provoking site for patriotic education.
As I stepped into the Mashan Observation Station, the first thing that caught my eye was the towering national flag and the large slogan inscribed with 'Never Forget Our Mission.' This phrase reminds people of the war years and the determination to reclaim the homeland. Inside the tunnel, one can feel the strong military atmosphere, with reinforced rock walls and traces of soldiers' presence everywhere.
What impressed me the most was the broadcasting station facing the opposite shore. Standing here, one can clearly see Xiamen on the other side, and through the loudspeakers, one can imagine the psychological warfare broadcasts that once conveyed various political and lifestyle information to the other side. Today, these devices have become historical relics, symbolizing the changes in cross-strait relations and the preciousness of peace.
Additionally, the observation station houses an exhibition hall displaying various wartime artifacts and photographs, helping visitors understand the significance of Kinmen during the period of confrontation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. Standing on the observation deck, looking at the shimmering sea, one cannot help but reflect on the land's past suffering from war and its current peaceful development.
This visit gave me a deeper understanding of Kinmen's history and made me cherish the peaceful life we have now even more. The Mashan Observation Station is not only a military relic but also a place that reminds us of the importance of history and the value of peace. If you have the chance, I highly recommend visiting this place to experience the stories and spirit of this land.
