The temperament of slow travel is hidden in these libraries (1)

Japanese people love reading. Not only are there various styles of bookstores lining the streets, but there are also many libraries with a sense of design. The recently opened "Underground Library" is a unique library hidden underground, resembling a cave, and its creative design is refreshing.

It has to be said that these libraries themselves embody a kind of architectural art, worthy of appreciation and study. Why not start a slow journey related to libraries from here?

01 Underground Library

Address: 2503 Yana, Kisarazu City, Chiba Prefecture
Transportation: Take a route bus from Kimitsu Station to "KURKKU FIELD entrance" and walk for 10 minutes, or take a taxi for about 20 minutes.

"The Underground Library" is located within the KURKKU FIELD art farm in Kisarazu City, Chiba Prefecture, and opened in February of this year. Its unique structure has become a popular topic on the internet. It is a somewhat different library, hidden underground, secretive yet beautiful. Reading here, one's mood becomes exceptionally calm and special, and one can completely immerse oneself in the world of books.

The library was designed by architect Nakamura Takushi. He built this bowl-shaped library in a lush area of trees and flowers, hoping that when people "dive" into the earth, they will encounter a wonderful space filled with the fragrance of books. People can gain knowledge and enrich their hearts in the library, just as plants absorb nutrients from the soil and grow lush. The natural light projected from the courtyard is the finishing touch, as if implying that books are the light of hope.

The library houses about 3,000 books, with themes centered around nature and farming life, covering various categories such as poetry, philosophy, history, and science. It inspires people's yearning and reflection on pastoral life, echoing the theme of KURKKU FIELDS, which integrates "agriculture, food, and art" experiences. The library operates on a reservation system and is only open to KURKKU FIELDS members, so be sure to prepare in advance if you want to read here.
