This shrine was built in 1617 by Hosokawa Tadaoki, a vassal of Kokura, as the chief guardian deity of the Kokura domain. Yasaka Shrine was originally built in Tsuchimonoshi-cho, but was moved to Kokura Castle in the early Showa period. On the road from Kokura Castle to Yasaka Shrine, you can see a granite torii gate, which is a designated cultural heritage of Fukuoka Prefecture and is said to have been built in the Muromachi period.

The amulets such as the Taiko drum amulet, the amulet for warding off misfortune, the amulet for good relationships, the amulet for success, etc., which originated from the Gion Festival, also have their own unique flavor. It is a tourist spot where you can visit Kokura Castle and worship at the same time.
