[Kitakyushu Trip] Retro station building

When I went on a trip to Kitakyushu, I went sightseeing at Mojiko Port❣️

Mojiko Station is very retro, and the station itself is a tourist attraction☺️

Mojiko Station opened in 1914 (Taisho 3) as Moji Station

In 1988 (Showa 63), it was the first railway station building to be designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, and currently, Mojiko Station and Tokyo Station are the only active station buildings designated as such

After six years of restoration work, the station building, which has regained its appearance from the Taisho period, had its grand opening in 2019 (Heisei 31)

The exterior walls are decorated with stone-like mosaics. The station is painted with rutile, and the roof is made of natural stone. The large clock in front was installed in 1918, but it was decided to leave it there due to its historical value. On the second floor of the station building, there are the former VIP room, the former annex room, and a small window that allows you to see into the attic, which you can visit. Inside the station building, there are many historical sights, such as the "lucky hand washing basin" that escaped metal donation during the war. There is also a Starbucks Coffee, and although the menu is the same as other stores, you can enjoy a completely different atmosphere, so I recommend it.
