Kokura Castle: A Historical Gem of Kitakyushu

My first visit to Kitakyushu led me to Kokura Castle, and I was instantly captivated by its serene yet majestic presence.

The castle is impeccably maintained, with its striking contrast of white walls and black tiles. Whether against a backdrop of blue skies, cherry blossoms, or lush greenery, it’s a photographer’s dream. From the top of the main keep, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Kokura city—simply breathtaking. Inside, there are interactive exhibits, including opportunities to try on samurai armor for photos and watch short films about samurai culture. Even those who aren’t history buffs will find plenty to enjoy.

The castle garden below is also worth a stroll, offering a completely different atmosphere depending on the season.

Conveniently located near Kokura Station, it’s easy to access and perfect for a half-day visit.
