【Tokyo】Time Slip to the Past? A Relaxing One-Day Plan in Tokyo

When you think of Tokyo, you usually think of the 23 wards, but the surrounding cities offer a calm weekend getaway, so they come highly recommended. This time, we introduce the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum located in Koganei City!!

It takes about 50 minutes by train and bus from Shinjuku Station. It’s in a fairly accessible location, making it a perfect spot to visit when you want to get away from the busy city for a bit.

Surprisingly large historical amusement facility. There are many buildings related to Tokyo and Edo, allowing you to experience an atmosphere as if you’ve time slipped to the past!

① Old public bathhouse ♨️ and Showa-era streetscape (Photos 1-3)
This place was said to have inspired Spirited Away. The scenery looks like something out of a Showa-era drama, making it a very calming place. Enjoy taking photos while imagining spending time in such an atmosphere.

② Edo-period buildings (Photo 4)
In the western area, you can feel the history going back to the Edo period. There are raised-floor warehouses and farmhouses with hearths, showcasing the beauty of old lifestyles. The farmhouse life is recreated in detail, making it a very interesting architecture for history lovers.

④ De Lalande House (Photos 6-7)
A Western-style residence with an atmosphere somewhat reminiscent of Totoro’s previous house. It’s now a café where you can relax and enjoy a drink! The coffee float is especially recommended for hot summers, so be sure to try it in the coming season!

⑤ Koganei Park (Photo 9)
Outside the architectural museum spreads Koganei Park. On weekends, it’s a place where you can enjoy a picnic or a leisurely walk. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom profusely, making it a popular spot for hanami and highly recommended🌸
