In the last century or two, Petaling Street was also known as Chinatown. As the name suggests, Petaling Street was once a gathering place for Chinese people. The entrance archway and high-hanging lanterns add a stronger Chinatown flavor.
As Kuala Lumpur gradually expanded its urban planning, the Chinese living in Petaling Street slowly moved out to satellite cities near Kuala Lumpur; however, the Chinese footprints and history were still preserved in Petaling Street, and it developed into a tourist attraction.
Petaling Street is actually a big market. From day to night, there are hundreds of vendors selling food, drinks, clothes and daily necessities, satisfying all the needs of tourists in one stop! Whether it is a sunny day or an occasional afternoon shower, the light green roofs of Petaling Street provide shelter for tourists all day long!
