From Nakhon Pathom, I boarded the overnight train bound for Padang Besar (Malaysia), and this time I used second class.
While waiting at the back, the car to board was at the very front, so I made a mad dash 😂
I showed my ticket and successfully boarded~
The beds are set up in the same direction as the train’s movement, and during the day they fold up into seats.
Just like on regular trains, vendors (not only women but sometimes children too) come around, so you can feel safe buying food.
After eating and getting sleepy, ask the conductor to make up your bed. I didn’t give a tip, but nothing special happened.
After a good sleep, we arrived at Hat Yai the next morning. There’s a long stop here for detaching cars. Of course, you can buy food on the platform. This is the last place to buy food in Thailand.
After leaving Hat Yai, you immediately cross the border and reach the final stop. After completing immigration at Padang Besar station, I transferred to KTM. The transfer time wasn’t very long, but it was fine.
This time I used KTM Gold to Kuala Lumpur. I didn’t know beforehand, but there are cheaper regular trains available.
The Chinese-made train cars can exceed 140 km/h even on meter gauge tracks, and I arrived comfortably at Kuala Lumpur station. Although Kuala Lumpur station has now transferred its central station role to KL Sentral, it’s still a very impressive station building!
