Independence Square, Kuala Lumpur – a photo hotspot in the heart of the city, blending history and European architectural atmosphere
Independence Square is one of the most iconic landmarks in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, surrounded by nostalgic atmosphere. The entire square is surrounded by magnificent European-style buildings such as the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and the Old Railway Station.
Trip routes & must-visit recommendations
It is recommended to start from Kuala Lumpur City Center and take a slow stroll along the road to Independence Square (open all year round and at any time). First thing after arrival: take a quick photo with the "I love KL" font! There is also the Sultan Abdul Samad Building nearby, with a typical Moorish design, especially when taking photos at sunset. There are also some small markets and cafes around where you can sit and enjoy a cold drink and slowly admire the surrounding historic buildings.
Must-play items:
- "I love KL" giant words check-in: heartfelt recommendation, photography has weight.
- European/Moorish Architecture Tour: There really is more than one building, each building has its own characteristics.
- Square lawn chill a chill: There will be local events or exhibitions on the weekends, and the kids are great for running and jumping.
Practical tips:
1. It is recommended to visit in the morning or evening to avoid the hot midday period (the sun is really strong in Kuala Lumpur).
2. Photo spots are less crowded in the morning, the photos come out much more beautiful.
3. There are many Cafes in the surroundings, 5 to 10 minutes walk to sit down to eat and enjoy cold drinks.
4. For an in-depth understanding of Kuala Lumpur’s history, you can take a tour nearby that will pass through many hidden buildings.
5. Open all day, no special reservations required.
Notes:
- Remember to bring an umbrella or hat, the square area is not too much tree shade, easy to sunburn.
- There are more crowds during holidays and weekends, so be prepared and take pictures may have to queue up.
- Some of the architectural exteriors can only be admired and may not be visited inside.
