Kumamoto Castle has a history of over 400 years. It was built by the famous Warring States general Kato Kiyomasa. It is one of the symbols of Kumamoto Prefecture and one of the three most famous castles in Japan.
Affected by the Great Kumamoto Earthquake in 2016, the castle tower was severely damaged. After five years of renovation, it was reopened to the public in 2021. Inside the castle tower there is an introduction to the entire Kumamoto Castle, including a detailed description of the history of each generation of daimyo and the castle tower. You can also enjoy the street view of Kumamoto City by climbing to the top floor of the castle tower. In spring, Kumamoto Castle is also a local cherry blossom viewing spot, attracting more than 100,000 people every year.
