Kumamoto is located in central Kyushu, Japan. What should we eat for dinner on our first day there?
#KumamotoYataimura In the central business district of Kumamoto, it feels like a well-planned food street.
There are different businesses gathered here, and it’s quite atmospheric when you come there in the evening.
You can see the interaction between the store and the customers.
Each one looked very attractive, and I finally chose the one called "Nanoan".
Because I saw on the menu a must-eat delicacy in Kumamoto.
Ming Tai Yuki (JPY 650)
Wasabi lotus root is a must-try specialty of Kumamoto and has a history of more than 400 years.
This local dish miraculously restored health to the frail lord of the Higo domain, Hosokawa Tadori.
But here is the mentaiko version, which is delicious with its crispy texture and spicy taste.
Spurs (JPY 1480) is a representative delicacy of Kumamoto and a must-try.
The texture is elastic and chewy, and the thickness is just right, so there is no difficulty in biting it.
There is no fishy smell when eaten, but a little sweet. It can be paired with minced ginger, green onions and some soy sauce to enhance the flavor.
The other dishes that go with drinks are also good, so I ordered two to try.
Ganhai Lao Tangyang げ (JPY 550) & ホタルイカの塩麹け (JPY440)
The shrimps in the former are fried to a crispy texture, while the firefly squid in the latter is not overly salty and tastes just right.
Total: JPY 3920 (consumption tax included)
Average price per person is HKD 99 including a drink per person.
