Taipei Street in Kunming is a vibrant cultural spot located within the historic Nanqiang Pedestrian Street in the Wuhua District.
It was named Taipei Street to resemble the ambience of Taiwan's night markets, particularly those in Shilin, Taipei.
It is part of the revitalized Nanqiang Street, which dates back to the early Qing Dynasty and originally a hub for military training.
The street is adorned with traditional fiery red lanterns and neon signs, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of Taipei’s famous Shilin Night Market.
We were strolling along the street during the daytime as it was near our hotel, but most of the street food stalls were not opened yet.
In the evenings, the area comes alive with the aroma of sizzling delicacies from the street food, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists seeking a taste of Taiwan without leaving Kunming.
